What is order flow analysis in forex?
Order flow analysis studies the actual buying and selling activity in markets to understand supply-demand imbalances. Instead of charts alone, traders look at order book data, trade volumes, and large block trades. For example, a sudden surge in buy orders on EUR/USD may signal institutional accumulation before price rallies. Order flow provides real-time insight into market microstructure, allowing scalpers and day traders to anticipate short-term moves. The challenge is access—true order flow is fragmented across liquidity providers. Retail traders often rely on footprint charts or broker-provided depth-of-market tools. While not perfect, order flow analysis adds another dimension beyond traditional technical analysis.
