What is the difference between ECN and STP accounts?

ECN (Electronic Communication Network) accounts connect traders directly to liquidity providers such as banks and other market participants. Orders are matched with the best available bid and ask in the network, often resulting in lower spreads but with an added commission per trade. ECN accounts provide high transparency and are suitable for experienced traders who want raw market pricing. STP (Straight Through Processing) accounts route orders directly to liquidity providers without a dealing desk. Spreads are usually slightly higher than ECN but commissions are often included in the spread. STP accounts are beginner-friendly since costs are easier to calculate. In summary, ECN accounts offer lower spreads with separate commissions, while STP accounts have wider all-inclusive spreads. Both avoid market maker manipulation, but ECN suits advanced traders, whereas STP is simpler for beginners.
